Biology Classes: Mandatory HIV/AIDS and Comprehensive Sexual Health/Sex Ed

The East Side Union High School District will be teaching a mandatory HIV/AIDS and Comprehensive Sexual Health (Sex Ed.) curriculum during March, April and/or May in your student’s biology course.  California state law (EC 51930- 51939) requires that Sex Ed. and HIV/AIDS prevention education be taught in middle school and in high school. You can examine the complete set of instructional materials for this unit at the main office of your son or daughter’s high school.

State law allows you to remove your student from comprehensive sexual health education or HIV/AIDS prevention education.  If you do not want your student to participate in the comprehensive sexual health and HIV/AIDS prevention instructional program, please return the Lesson Withdrawal Form, given to your student, to your student’s biology teacher by the start of the unit (date will be on the form provided by your son's/daughter's instructor). A copy of the curriculum binder is available in N1. If you have questions, please contact our site principal, Mr. Berg (Bergbj@esuhsd.org).
