IHS Mentorship Program

Dear Parents and Class of 2019,

Welcome to our Independence family!  We look forward to celebrating with you on graduation day 2019.  This school year we are launching a mentoring program for all freshmen.   We have one shared goal this year:  to ensure all freshman have a successful year.

The mentors in our program are college bound students who possess the skills to navigate through the demands of high school. All mentors report to a teacher-advisor and meet each other every week.   The mentors will guide freshmen towards successful academic habits, engage in tutoring, and ultimately, serve as a role model.  Weekly meetings or “check ins” are expected from both the mentors and freshmen.

The first meeting will be held on September 3rd, 2015, during collaboration time 8:20am - 10:00am.  All freshmen and all mentors will receive notification in August regarding the location. The next meetings are set for October 1 and 20, 2015.

Thank you,

IHS Leadership Team

Summer Mailer

2015 Summer Mailer

August 1, 2015

Dear Parents and Students:

Welcome to the 2015-2016 School Year!

As the principal of Independence High School, it is my pleasure to welcome everyone back to another great year. Here at Independence, our excellent teachers spend hours planning and creating lessons that engage our students in their learning. We strive to challenge each student to grow in his or her academic abilities and to be college-ready by the end of four years. Our first day of school is Tuesday, August 11, 2015 and we will be on a regular bell schedule.

On the bottom of this webpage, please find the school picture form. You must bring this on the day of ID/Schedule pickups (see the dates to the left). Please visit our school’s website to find the most up-to-date information including our important forms, school calendar, important phone numbers, and email addresses for all of our teachers. Additionally, we have a Twitter account @IndependenceHS and a account (to receive messages via text, text @remindihs to 81010) that we will use to send out updates and quick announcements as we go through the school year.  If you do not have access to the internet or would like a hard copy of information, please come to the school’s Administration Building in N, open during the summer Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.

I am honored to serve as the principal of Independence High School. It is truly a privilege to be part of a community where parents, teachers, and students care for each other and strive to build positive relationships that support academic and social growth. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at 1.408.928.9510 or email me at

Once again, welcome back!  Let’s make it another great year at Independence!
